Child Writes: Creating a Children's Picture Book is Child's Play is a step-by-step hand holding guide to creating a children's picture book. It has been written after years of working with children, teaching them all the elements of creating a picture book - demystifying the process by sharing all the hot tips about generating ideas; writing stages including editing and proofreading; all the tools for planning and developing illustrations... It is all in one book. Whilst the Child Writes program (see below) is certainly for children - this book is for adults too, hence the chapters Print it and Market it have been included. There is life in that manuscript yet! After all, if a primary school aged child can write and illustrate their own picture book - YOU CAN TOO!

The book is to be distributed by The Australian Book Group and has just won a GOLD medal in the international Independent Publishers Awards for Best Adult Non-Fiction eBook. The graduates of the Child Writes program (who have stepped through the process and there are over 200!) have their books on Jetstar as inflight entertainment on the iPads.
Children writing for children supporting children...
It is a simple ideology which actually works! The Child Writes Program is a stunning project, nurturing literacy and creativity, giving children a voice by offering primary school aged children the opportunity to write and illustrate their own children's picture books. These books are published by boutique publisher Boogie Books, complete with ISBNs and an official book launch!
Copies are donated to places (such as hospitals) where children are in crisis... an empowering process for both the child authors and the children who are encouraged by the achievement and generosity of their peers. Every child has their book available for purchase from the bookstore and for the child authors of the most outstanding books, Child Writes intends on making commercial opportunities possible.
The dream is to see the Child Writes program available to every child in Australia. The word is spreading... the interest is mounting... and the excitement is building.
