Child Writes is supported by publisher Boogie Books.
Boogie Books NOW is the largest publisher
of children's eBooks written by children on Amazon!
Years ago, I wished upon-a-star that we could work out a way to distribute the children's books beyond the Child Writes site, beyond their parents community, even beyond our shores. The challenge was to find a way to convert the books into an electronic version, or an eBook, in a cost-effective manner.  From the initial quote of $65k five years ago, technology has caught up with the Child Writes dream and once we discovered Brink Publishing could do this seamlessly for us, we have just spent the last six weeks uploading .mobi files to Amazon.  Now the children have a megaphone for their voices (and Child Writes are the largest publishers in the Amazon world of children's picture books written and illustrated by children... )

It won't be long before every oncology ward, every Ronald McDonald house, every location where children are in crisis, has an iPad with the full Child Writes library, so these children can see what their peers have achieved, read their stories, gain support from them and the belief that they too can do whatever they wish to achieve...

Where is Child Writes this year?
Finnley's Great Escape...

Silverton Primary School in Noble Park North (Melbourne, Victoria) has a group of 19 enthusiastic, engaged children who have already sharpened their pencils and started the program!  It is going to take all of our stamina to slow this lot down as they are wildly excited about the book launch - yet we are only just approaching proofreading and editing now (let alone the work which goes into the illustration process!)

As well as  Silverton PS, three schools in Toowoomba are running the program and we would love to get another community class going in the same city.  If you want to follow the journey, 'like' Child Writes on Facebook and come along for the ride!
Emma facilitated a workshop for the Condamine Alliance with a group of thirteen children in January.  The goal was to write and illustrate a picture book focusing on ways to keep the pest fish, Tilapia, out of the Murray Darllng Basin. This fish is akin to the Cane Toad in its invasiveness and potential environmental damage so the task at hand was taken very seriously.

The result (after just three days!)  is a wonderful picture book which will be released soon, Finnley's Great Escape has been endorsed by Jackie French, passionate environmentalist, Nobel Laureate 2013-14 and author of many titles including Diary of a Wombat.

Kate McCullough from the Charters Towers School of Air in QLD was the winner of the writing category.  Both of her entries were a true joy to read!  Her prose are delightful, emotionally provocative and outstandingly beautiful.
Charlotte De Laine, from Balgowlah Heights Public School was the winner of the illustration category. Her drawings demonstrated an ability to interpret both the interior world of emotions and the exterior with which are are slightly more familiar.
We were so delighted with the extraordinary talent the competition unearthed that we decided to acknowledge those writers and illustrators whose work deserved an Exceptional Commendation.
