Books written and illustrated by children being published?!?!?! Really?
Indeed - YES! Over the past year, we have worked with children from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, setting them up with the tools and framework to create their own children's picture books.  With another possible 51 titles being added to the Child Writes Library, we are celebrating by dancing on the desktops as we finish our 10th year!  Boogie Books, the publisher behind the Child Writes program was the first in the world to claim to be Amazon's biggest publisher of children's books written and illustrated by children!

Our absolute favourite part of the Child Writes program is still the authors donating copies of their books to locations where children are in crisis.  This year, the children in Queensland are donating their books to the children's ward at the local hospital.  The children in Victoria are donating their books to Ronald McDonald House.  This premise of 'children writing for children supporting children' is one of the things we go nuts about here at Boogie Books!

And is the opportunity accessible to anyone? Yes!  We are offering an opportunity to one lucky writer and one lucky illustrator to be mentored through the process of a collaborative picture book next year.  For those children who may not win, there is a correspondence version of the program and even better, there is a swag of tutors who have registered their interest and are just busting to share the program to children around the country!

For a sneak peek at what is possible - please have a look at the book 'The Lost Calf' written by last year's winners, Kate McCullough and Charlotte De Laine! It is just me reading, the recording via an iPhone, so it is very rustic to say the least.  You will however, not need to be impressed with the production (or rather, lack thereof!) as the book, is mellifluous words and its entrancing illustrations will capture you from the first page...

Competition closes 16 November
Finnley keeps on giving...

This year's competition closes at midnight on Sunday 16th of November. We are announcing a long-list this year, on our Facebook page on the 21st of November, and then the winners will be announced on Monday 1st of December. We know magic when we see it AND the prize is mentoring for a year as we polish and scrub writing and illustrations, so please, keep it raw and honest.  We really want to reiterate that are looking for potential, not perfection!

Sometimes a project takes on a life of it's own! (Actually, here at Boogie Books, it happens often!) Finnleys' Great Escape is one such project.  It has been so genuinely thrilling to have been nominated for a Cultural Heritage Award in this years Condamine Awards. Now, we are up finalists!  In our section, we are up against the Southern Downs Regional Council, so please keep your fingers (and fins!) crossed we are successful on the night...

Making a Difference

Celebrating 10 years of publishing, Boogie Books is excited to be also publishing 'Imagine' by Emma Mactaggart, illustrated by Ester De Boer. The colour in competition is a fab' way for your little ones to be in the draw to win their own copy!

50 children from New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland have written and illustrated their own picture books. These hardworking children will have their book launches in the next couple of weeks. In advance, we say 'congratulations!'

We have an amazing document on hand called 'Making A Difference'.  If the Child Writes program appeals to you in anyway, we have pathways and frameworks which will suit any school culture or after school program... Will happily email you today if you want more information.

Last call - any one interested...
Throughout the year, we have received expressions of interest from passionate literacy advocates about becoming tutors of the Child Writes program.  Admitting we have been neglecting you, we promise your time will come (soon!) Our goal is to get all the books to the printers and then concentrate on you!  A thought - a precursor to becoming a tutor would be participating in our three day workshop so you can fully understand the program.  We would love to bring the workshop to you if you had more than 5 colleagues interested in learning with you!  We offer the workshop via correspondence as well.  Either way - if you were thinking of joining the team, please get in touch sooner rather than later, so we can make some plans for early 2015!
